Veronica's
Last DVD Now Available To Pre-Order!
Warner
Home Video will be releasing the third and final season of Veronica
Mars onto DVD on October 23.
The
DVD will contain all 20 episodes, some special bonus features
most likely including deleted scenes, and it is said to include
the Veronica Mars: F.B.I. presentation, which we prefer
to call "Rob's Folly."
The
DVD contains the best cover art yet of the three seasons, with
nary a Parker or Piz in sight (yay!) but plenty of Wallace, Weevil,
and Mac (alas, they're not in the episodes within nearly enough).
And let's hope there's a special Target "Sheriff Lamb Edition"
but we won't hold our breath.
Amazon.com
is now listing the set as available to pre-order, so follow

Jason
Dohring Finds Life After Mars
Fans
of Jason Dohring might have a reason to watch CBS this
Fall.
Jason
has been cast in a recurring role on Forever Knight
Angel Moonlight, a series about a detective who happens
to be a vampire. The show also includes Sophia Myles in it (the
Girl in the Fireplace!) so it can't be too bad.
Jason
will be playing "Josef," a vampire by night and hedge
trader by day.

Veronica
Mars: Officially Cancelled
Kristen Bell Lands New Gig
The
CW has formally announced their Fall 2007 schedule on Thursday,
and it has been confirmed that Veronica Mars is not on
the schedule for a fourth season.
There
was the thought that, if creator Rob Thomas can come up with some
scripts for Veronica Mars: FBI by June 15, that the CW
could reconsider, but considering the show's recent string of
dismal ratings this is seeming very unlikely. Rob Thomas himself
has said at E! Online that he is "out of hope."
Also
putting a kink in the likelihood of Veronica's return:
Kristen Bell has signed on to be the self-titled narrator in The
CW's NEW series, Gossip Girl. Could this be an attempt
to placate disappointed Veronica fans after a cancellation? You
can read all about Kristen's new job at
Entertainment Weekly's website where the article was
first broken.
If
Veronica Mars is indeed over, then the
episodes airing on May 22 will be the last we see of her.
Considering that the show was initially more of a hit with fans
and critics than it was in the ratings race, the fact that
Veronica lasted as long as it did was an accomplishment.
Talk
about the cancellation news at the Veronica Mars forum
at KryptonSite.

Some
potential signs that even if Veronica Mars ends, some people
will be moving on: Both Chris Lowell (Piz) and Julie
Gonzalo (Parker) have signed on to appear in TV pilots that
could lead into full series this Fall. If successful, this means

UPDATED:
Veronica Mars Cancelled?
It
looks like the inevitable news is on its way....
The
usually-reliable Kristin
Veitch at E! Online has revealed that Season Three may be
the last for Veronica Mars.
Ive
never been less certain of our fate. Im afraid Ive
gone from cautiously optimistic to something less than that,
VM creator Rob Thomas told Kristin.
Ratings
for this season of Veronica, after a very good start, had
fallen in the early 2007 episodes. The fact that a cheaper reality
show such as The Search For The Next Pussycat Doll got
better ratings could not have helped. The CW's insistence on removing
Veronica from the repeat cycle, so people may forget it's still
even on the air, can't help much either.
Stay
tuned for more information as it becomes available. If Veronica
is indeed cancelled, here's hoping The CW at least allows them
a good send-off.
UPDATE:
Moviehole.net
has confirmed with a source close to one of the cast members that
the show is indeed ending. Stay tuned!
UPDATE
#2: Kristen has posted a new post saying that Rob Thomas has
written her again, assuring her that the show has NOT officially
been cancelled, but also that the show MIGHT still have a
chance with yet another new format. The
Hollywood Reporter has the details:
"Veronica
Mars might be looking at a quick graduation from Hearst College.
The fate of the CW's cult favorite remains uncertain, but if the
show returns for a fourth season in the fall, it might find the
young sleuth in a different setting. "Veronica Mars"
creator Rob Thomas has come up with an idea to fast-forward a
couple of years and have Mars studying at the FBI Academy. (As
a freshman at Hearst College, Mars (Kristen Bell) has been taking
criminology classes and been looking to do an internship at the
FBI.) Thomas is filming a trailer for the alternative fourth season
of the Warner Bros. TV/Silver Pictures show, which will be submitted
to the CW. The network's executives ultimately will decide whether
to pick up the series for another season and, if they do, whether
to stick to the drama's current plot line or go with the new version.
If Mars goes to the FBI Academy next season, it will be a third
backdrop for the character, who began her P.I. adventures while
in high school."

Changes
For A Veronica Season Four?
This
week's Ask Ausiello column at TV Guide Online features some revelations
about some changes that may be afoot should there be a fourth
season of Veronica Mars.
The
good news: Veronica's ratings for "Spit & Eggs"
made The CW very happy. The bad news (for some): The network,
and creator Rob Thomas feel that some changes may be needed to
keep the interest in a fourth year. In order to do that, the show
may move from the "mystery arc" based format into a
series of self-contained episodes.
"Our
fear is that the big mysteries are keeping casual TV viewers away,
and it's very difficult to engage Veronica in a multi-episode
mystery without making it extremely personal," Thomas said.
"Season 1 was built around the mystery. Veronica's best friend
was dead. Every series regular was intertwined with the mystery.
Without replacing the cast with each mystery and/or killing Wallace,
I'm not sure we can devise enough personal connection to a case
to keep the momentum we had in Season 1."
