Bomb: Neptunesite Talks To Ryan Hansen

The
third season premiere of Veronica Mars airs on Tuesday,
October 3 at 9PM on the CW. One of the most popular characters,
Dick Casablancas, is back for the third season, and Ryan Hansen
continues to bring him to life.
Neptunesite's
Craig Byrne caught up with Ryan this summer at the Comic Con International
in San Diego for some new interview material. The interview follows.
Our questions are in bold, answers are not. In the interview,
Ryan talks about the first two seasons and offers some hints about
Season Three. Be warned, he does
talk about the resolution to the Season 2 mystery.
What
was your reaction to hearing that your character's name was Dick
Casablancas?
I
didn't understand it, especially because when I did it, I had
a word, and I'm like "Why does this guy who is saying a word,
have a full name like Dick Casablancas?" I thought they were
trying to be funny, like maybe they knew someone who had that
name, but come to find out, he has a whole family. I guess they
had something behind it, obviously, but I thought it was the craziest
thing ever. I've never had a name like that on a show.
Will
you get to interact with your stepmother [Kendall Casablancas]
this season?
Negative.
I don't think I am. I really don't think so.
Are
they going to address what has happened to Cassidy?
Yeah.
I kind of deal with it, and you kind of see me drinking a lot.
He [Dick]'s definitely feeling - he actually has some feeling,
so he's feeling his brother's death, I think.
How
is shooting for the new season going so far?
The
first time you see Dick, he's in a speedo, and he's back in full
effect. I was a little nervous about hopping in the Speedo, because
there's like a hundred extras and they're all female. I'm dancing,
and it's pretty ridiculous. I was nervous, but it's funny, and
it's cool.
Is
there anybody that is on the show that you haven't really gotten
to interact with that you haven't been able to?
I
guess I did have a couple scenes with Francis, not too much...
I would love to work more with him, and I'd love to work with
Rico. He's amazing.
Have
you seen the online following that Dick Casablancas has?
I've
heard a little bit about it. I haven't actually seen it, but my
friends have shown me some clips, and I've seen a little music
video called Sex Bomb that's edited to a music video about Dick.
[Sings] Kinda funny. It's cool.
At
what point last season did you figure out that Beaver did it?
Gosh.
I think it was really maybe two, three weeks before we shot it.
we got a little bit of a hint beforehand, and then we got the
script and I was like, "Wait a minute! That's my little buddy!
That's my bro!" It's crazy. I think it's great for the show,
but personally, like, Kyle's my buddy. I didn't want to see him
go, but it's a great way to go. I mean, he went out - he did so
rad that episode.
